Senufo Female Fertility Statue in Carved Ebony, Late 19th Century
A female fertility statue of West African Senufo (Mali, or Ivory Coast) origin in solid Ebony. Hand-carved from a single piece of Gaboon (African) Ebony, this expressive figurine features notch carving and a pedestal base typical of the sophisticated work of the Senufo tribe. The type of wood used for these religious statues, being both extremely dense as well as naturally resistant to insect attack and decay, has allowed this piece to remain in excellent antique condition, reflecting closely it's original state.
