Pair of Signed Vintage Finn Juhl '109' Armchairs in Teak, Leather & Brass, 1946
A very rare pair of vintage signed Finn Juhl for Niels Vodder (Cabinetmaker) 109 armchairs in teak, black leather, and brass. Elegantly suspended backrests supported by Finn Juhl's signature brass mounting hardware. Sculpted armrests are delicately shaped by hand featuring Nordic formal motifs and add dynamism and drama to the design. Even the stretchers of the undercarriage are sculpted in the round, every inch of this chair is meant to be surveyed and beheld as an achievement of aesthetics, engineering, and artisanship in three-dimensional form. These chairs are petite but plush--Juhl was a master of ergonomics as well as engineering, and this model can support sitters both large and small with great comfort. The architecture of the frames is also quite impressive, while remaining light and airy the structure is very strong due to a brilliantly-designed form and well-cut joinery. Gorgeous angles throughout, understated but confident--these are great vintage examples of a classic Finn Juhl design.
Both frames feature original branded manufacturer's mark to underside.
