Vintage Taccia Lamp by Pier Giacomo and Achille Castiglioni, Flos, 1962
An icon of Italian lighting design, la "Taccia" was designed by Pier Giacomo and Achille Castiglioni in 1962 for Flos, Italy. Designed as a playful trompe l'oeil, this table lamp is meant to visually reflect an upside-down pendant light hanging from the ceiling; a mind-bending move that gives this stationary object a sense of dynamism. The light emits a warm, diffused, reflected light--a concealed bulb bounces off the painted aluminum reflector which moves in tandem with the blown glass diffuser--positioning the soft even light in different directions. Referring aesthetically to aerospace design, the lunar cycle, and the classical torch; this piece is equal parts sculpture and lighting--truly an intriguing piece to walk around, adjust, and use in daily life.
