Montaperto Studios is a furniture gallery and conservation studio specializing in historical design of the 20th century. Established in Florence, Italy in 1948, Montaperto Studios represents a devotion to antiques, artisanship, and design, spanning three generations. President and head conservator, Angelo Montaperto, b. 1952, started working under his father at age 12, learning traditional cabinetmaking techniques, as well as the classical European approach to restoration and finishing. After completing his formal education at The Academy of Fine Arts, Florence; Angelo joined his family's business full-time, cultivating notable skills as an artisan, as well considerable expertise within the vast fields of antiques and art. Angelo relocated to New York City in the early 1980s re-establishing Montaperto Studios in lower Manhattan. By 2004, and with an increasingly pronounced interest in historical design of the 20th century, he had collected a significant number of eclectic pieces. Since joining 1stDibs’ international luxury marketplace in 2005, Montaperto Studios has proven to be an unique source of vintage furnishings and fine art for the trade, and collectors alike. The studio and its collection are now managed by Angelo and his son, Justinian, in Brooklyn, New York—carrying on our tradition into the third generation.
