Great three-seat example of Tobia Scarpa's influential and innovative "Coronado" seating series; first produced in 1966 by C&B Italia, which would become B&B Italia, after Busnelli increased his ownership stake. This early version features vibrant red leather back cushions, back and side panels, and armrests, while the seat cushions are fabricated in red velvet. The velvet seat cushions prevent the sitter from sliding forward while reclining, help resist and absorb the extra wear that the seat cushions tend to show after time, and also provide an interesting textural contrast within design, which heightens the impact and sophistication of the piece. The feet are made from turned and stained hardwood, likely beech; and the original manufacturer's mark (C&B Italia) is sewn into the seat beneath the cushions.
